Veteran actress and CINTAA President Poonam Dhillon has expressed her support for Ranveer Singh coming out of Don 3. While this sparked a lot of conversations across the industry, Dhillon defended his right to disengage from projects.
Disagreements had broken out between Singh and the Don 3 producers. Other industry associations had to get involved as this turned into a larger discussion over creative freedom and contractual obligations within Bollywood.

Praises Ranveer’s Professionalism and Integrity
While speaking on the topic, Poonam Dhillon mentioned that the reason behind Ranveer leaving the project is still unknown and that he would always maintain a good image and strong reputation within the industry. Also, Dhillon said that he has a good rapport and has worked on multiple projects with the producers of Don 3 and that he would never do anything to hurt the project and the people involved.
Ranveer Singh did something that Dhillon says is extremely rare within the industry, and that is to offer to pay the producers of the film for their loss. Dhillon said this is a very responsible act of Singh and that by doing this and also undoing the signing, showed that he respects the producers.
Actors Deserve Creative Power
Poonam Dhillon referenced the discretion actors have regarding their parts and advised studio executives to involve lead actors in the development of the script, the evolution of their film roles, and even the film’s overall directional trajectory. Since actors are impacted by—and to an extent, responsible for—the public’s reception of the film’s success or failure, their input is welcome.
The collaborative process of decision-making between actors and studio executives is in the best interest of the film. Decision-makers in the film industry should not be afraid of the collaborative process. The valuable input of experienced actors can enhance the development of the film narrative and audience engagement.
Leaving a Project Happens in Bollywood
On the reaction of the film-making community to Ranveer’s exit, Dhillon said that leaving a project that is still in the pre-production phase is, by and large, a normal practice. This can occur because of scheduling conflicts, creative differences, and a host of other personal and professional circumstances. In her opinion, each case of the exit of an actor should be looked at on its own merits.
The Dispute Should Have Been Handled Similarly
She also voiced her concern regarding the approach to the above dispute by certain industry players. She said action was taken without any consultation of CINTAA, and expressed that this was an unprecedented situation. Dhillon said that involving the parties with a vested interest in the dispute would have lessened the severity of the situation and brought a resolution sooner.
Signs of agreement
The industry appears to be working towards easing the conflicts. Dhillon’s opinion should add greatly to the discourse. It builds upon the idea of leaving room for personal expression while maintaining strong communication and cordiality.
Her support for Ranveer Singh shows the difficulty of maintaining professional obligations while also allowing the artist the freedom to make career decisions.
